How To Write Your Website’s About Page

Your website’s About page needs to accomplish one goal – to provide a brief introduction to your website, its services and the company behind it.  Sometimes, though, you want it to do just a little bit more and that’s something you’ll have to be clear about before beginning to write it.

The basic About page will contain the following information:

  • What your site is about
  • Its core subject or service
  • The main issues it addresses or the main services it provides
  • Credentials
  • A brief background into you or your company
  • Contact information

Anything you add to that will depend on what you’re looking to accomplish with both the About page and the website as a whole.  As a rule, try to keep your About page consistent with both the tone of the writing and the personality of the entire site, apart from using a decent grammar checker to ensure its properly writte.  If you publish dead serious business articles, then your About page better not be some sassy discussion with profanities to boot.  Make sure it stays in line and fits in.

If you’re hoping to attract more clients, then don’t be ashamed to use the About page as a platform for it.  Pitch yourself to death by rattling off your credentials and your competencies.  If you’re looking to push sales, let your About page reflect that too.  No shame in putting the products you’re selling front and center, even as you inform people about the company and the website behind it.
