New to writing query letters? First suggestion, then: pick up a book with query samples and base your letters from them. Editors and agents will take you more seriously if you format your queries in a way that makes it easy for them to read.

Here are common beginner mistakes you will be wise to avoid in your query letters:

Names spelled incorrectly. If you can’t even be bothered to get the recipient’s name right, we doubt any editor or agent will give you the time of day. With the internet allowing you to search almost anyone, there’s also no excuse to get any person’s name wrong.

Pitching topics, rather than stories. Topics are general subject matter; stories, on the other hand, are specific things you intend to share with a reader. Any clown can tell an editor “I want to write a story about the presidential election.” Only a serious writer who has done previous research can propose a “story about the effects of the presidential election on a family in Iowa who volunteer for one of the candidates.”

Being impatient. Allow the editor to take their time considering your query. Don’t be an eager beaver. While waiting for a response, just send out more queries to keep yourself busy.

Forgetting your contact details. Always put your full name, phone numbers and other pertinent contact information in the query. Different editors have different preferred ways of getting in touch — give them a chance to call, email or even send snail mail if they wish.

When you write a cover letter, whether you’re vying for a scholarship or trying to land a job, you can’t [...]

When you write a cover letter, whether you’re vying for a scholarship or trying to land a job, you can’t simply say, “I’m the guy for this position.” Remember, a cover letter is a form of persuasive writing — one where you’re trying to convince the reader that you’re the right person to consider.

Know what the job is and what it entails. You can’t really say you’re the best match for a job if you don’t have any idea what it really is about. Find out what the actual responsibilities for the position are, along with the kinds of qualifications that will fit them.

Tell them what they will get out of it. People don’t want to hire you because you need work (or whatever thing you are applying for). They will bring you in because the organization can benefit from what you bring to the table. Let them know explicitly what they will get (e.g. “If you hire me, you’ll secure a dynamic and creative individual with an unrelenting work ethic”).

Prove it. Just as with any type of persuasive writing, you’ll need to provide specific details which support your initial assertion. If you say you’re hard-working, cite illustrative examples that show you working hard. Same if you say you’re creative or passionate or cool under pressure.

Avoid one-size-fits-all cover letters. At the least, customize each cover letter to account for the company, the department and the position you’re applying for. One great way to personalize a cover letter is by relaying an anecdote that’s related to the job you’re trying to get.

Proofread. If you don’t have the patience for it, then use a grammar checking software. That will probably do a more thorough job, as well.

Valentine’s Day is in the air. If you’ve never written your partner a love letter, imagine the surprise they will experience when you do craft one especially for the occasion. Can’t write a romantic letter if your life depended on it? Read on and you might learn a thing or two.

1. With love letters, presentation is half the battle. Try writing your letter by hand on a nice paper, packaged in an endearing envelope. Make sure to set the mood before giving your loved one the letter. It can work wonders even if you’re a shabby writer.

2. Tell them why you’re writing. Begin your love letters by giving your heartfelt reasons for writing. Don’t be timid – write down how you really feel.

3. Pour your heart out in the body. Most people get stumped when writing the body of the love letter. This list of things you can talk about should provide enough ideas to express your feelings.

Talk about the first time you fell in love with your partner.

Explain the ways they have changed your life for the better.

Describe how you feel when you’re apart.

Describe how you feel when you’re together.

List down the ways you are perfect for each other.

List down the ways that your partner is special.

Recall some of your special moments.

4. Closing. Always end with the most romantic line you can muster, carefully wording it to create the most poignant effect.

A Writing Software

Even though we recommend handwriting your love letters, it is a good idea to write it on a computer first, put it through a writing improvement software and copy the finished result. While the sentiment isn’t likely to be lost with a few grammar errors, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Have you ever felt grateful towards someone you know? It could be your parents, friends or relatives perhaps? When you feel embarrassed about telling how you feel or if you are too busy, then writing them a letter of thanks can help you. A simple letter telling them how thankful you are is better than nothing at all. Imagine your mom or dad looking out for you or your loved one who is always there when you are happy or sad. It really means that much to them when you let them know how grateful you are for everything they have done.

In fact, studies show that people who are being appreciated live longer and have healthy lives. It can also rise up their confidence, since they know that they are valuable to you. So if you cannot think of anything to give them in a special day, then this might be the perfect gift!

The letter doesn’t need to be long. All that matters is that you express how thankful you are with everything that they have done for you inside that small paper. Also, make sure that you use quality paper for the letter. There are lots of colored papers that you can choose from to match the personality of the recipient of the letter. If you have a computer, you can use it to design a nice template and also to check for misspelled words thru grammar checkers.

A thank you letter can indeed become the ultimate gift when you do it the right way. It can also be a great alternative if you are facing financial problems and you are trying to avoid spending. Of course, make sure that the letter comes from the heart, not because you feel you had to do so.

There may be a time in your life when you and your loved one had a misunderstanding with each other. [...]

There may be a time in your life when you and your loved one had a misunderstanding with each other. You both argued endlessly and may have ended saying hurtful things that both of you don’t really mean. Or maybe it could be a friend or maybe your parents. In these cases, it is always difficult to apologize to them because you find it very awkward to do so or maybe you are too embarrassed to admit you were wrong. During these times, when you do not know how to express your deepest apologies, then a letter might be the answer to your problems.

Making a letter of apology is very easy. It doesn’t need to be fancy. You can create a simple letter of apology that can convey your heartfelt regret to your loved one.

First thing you can do is take a blank sheet of paper and try writing down a letter of apology as practice. Try not to make it too long or too short. Express your apologies with the best of your abilities and make sure the words are clear and concise. If you have your own computer, you can use it to try and check for any grammatical errors on your letter. Try using grammar checkers to make sure.

If you have already made your final draft, you can now start writing the letter of apology. Make sure you use a clean paper for writing. This should now be very easy for you since all you need to do is simply write down everything that you had made in the practice. After writing, place the letter inside a nice envelope. Now, if you want to make your loved one feel how sorry you really were, one tip is to place the letter in a table, surrounded with flowers or balloons. Now isn’t that sweet?
