As you’ve probably been taught, good writing means avoiding abstract nouns whenever possible.  It’s sound advice — using concrete nouns and verbs simply lead to clearer, more effective writing.

Abstract nouns aren’t bad.  In many ways, they can make your writing sound more formal and mature.  However, using too many of them can leave your sentences with weak verbs, often resulting in work that lacks coherence.
