How To Get Motivated For Writing

Some people wait for their creative spark.  Others seek it.  Obviously, the latter offers better potential for producing good work (with the help of a writing clean-up software, of course) in the long term.

Many times, the choice to wait around for a creative moment or to actively pursue it boils down to a matter of motivation.  If you are sufficiently motivated, you can “fight through” those awkward, uninspired moments, rather than being frustrated by them.  After all, the more open you are to welcoming brilliance, the better your chances of actually drawing it in.

Want to better motivate yourself into seeing your writing activities to their end?   Here are a few ways that can help raise your motivation level:

1. Try something new.  Fresh challenges are always a sure-fire way to get your motivation up.  A new topic, a new writing technique or a new approach can sufficiently change things up on this end.

2. Use a different point of view than what you’re used to.  If you always write in the first person, write in the third.  Same with its inverse.  Additionally, you can tell the story from the point of view of an unusual narrator, like the protagonist’s dog or an inanimate object like a car.

3. Look at the bigger picture.  Why do you write?  What fuels you?  Think about your deeper motivation for writing and remind yourself of that.

4. Make it fun.  What can you do to make this particular task a fun one?  Think up ways to make it more engaging, more entertaining for you.
